Gerry-Rae & Nick met at work, and after 6 years together, Nick proposed to Gerry-Rae during a winter holiday in Whistler. They wanted their love for winter and skiing to be a part of their wedding day so they decided to have a spring wedding in the favourite ski resort in Austria, Zell am See.
A Spring Skiing Wedding In Zell Am See
Gerry-Rae and Nick planned their mountain wedding themselves from their home in London, making a few weekend trips to Zell am See to sort of some of the details in person. But with only weeks until their wedding date, their reception venue cancelled their booking and they were left to find a last-minute alternative for their mountain wedding reception. They knew that they wanted a venue on the mountain, but with many of their guests having never been skiing before, it needed to somewhere that was accessible by lift and somewhere that would be able to organise evening transport back down the mountain at the end of the night. With the help of local wedding planner Charlotte, they found the AreitLounge. This last-minute venue change ended up completing their dream wedding day vision.
March in the Alps is usually filled with warm spring days and sunny skiing. But in the days running up to the wedding, it felt like winter was making a comeback, with high winds bring in a cold front and with it lots of new snow. On the day before the wedding a number of the group got stuck up on the mountain in a blizzard and had to sit out the storm in a mountain hut before trying to make their way down the mountain in a complete white-out. But as everyone woke up on the morning of the wedding they were greeted with fresh snow and the ground and blue skies above them.
Gerry-Rae & Nick made their marriage official at the Rathaus, a beautiful historic building in the town. Then it was time for a quick change in to ski boots and to head up the mountain for a few runs. Gerry-Rae had her beautiful Kenneth Winston dress specially altered with extra loops so that she could tie to the whole skirt for skiing. The onlookers cheered as Gerry-Rae & Nick stood at the top of the mountain getting ready to ski back down, and both of them felt like rockstars, getting asked by every other passer-by for a selfie with them. After a nice long run from the top of the mountain all the way down to the AreitLounge, the couple joined their guests again to begin the evening celebrations in their beautifully decorated reception venue.
Their wedding day was also filmed by the wonderful Emma from Story of Your Day.
