Until this trip, Rena & Thomas’ greatest adventure was in New Zealand. Knowing that they loved the stunning landscapes of New Zealand, I knew that the Dolomites wouldn’t disappoint them. We wrote to each other back and forth for months, and I helped them to plan an awesome adventure for the day of their adventure session with me.

The location we settled on for their adventure session was a stunning alpine lake. I’d scouted the location one year previously, and whilst there was still snow then, I was confident that by June, the trails would be clear. However winter in the Alps had been full of lots of late snowfall, and with cold temperatures and more snow through the month of May, I had to explain to them that I didn’t think the hike we’d planned would be safe. In fact, with meters of snow still covering roads and trails in many areas, it was up to me as the local expert to come up with some alternative options for them.

After a lot of calling around to local authorities to find out which areas were still under snow, I managed to come up with some alternative adventures. Wanting to give them a few options to choose from, I suggested a plan B, C, and D. They settled on plan B and we arranged a time to meet.

Our plan B consisted of driving down one of my favourite valleys to visit two mountain lakes and also a viewing point of the iconic Dolomites Tre Cime peaks, and each location I had carefully chosen for them took their breath away. We all agreed that as a plan B, it was pretty darn stunning.

One of the things I talk a lot about is the benefits of hiring a local photographer for your wedding, elopement or adventure session, and for Rena & Thomas, it was definitely a huge advantage that I knew the local area. It meant that I could easily plan a number of alternative options for them taking in to account the weather conditions and safety aspects of getting to each location. If you are interested in adventuring in the Italian or Austrian Alps, in the North Tyrol or Dolomites regions, then you’ll benefit from my local knowledge. Plus, I don’t share the names a lot of my favourite locations publicly, so you’ll be able to discover some awesome (almost) secret locations.
