How do you ask out that girl you’ve fancied for a while? You offer her free wakeboard lessons, give her concussion and somewhere along the line, you end up dating. At least that’s how Anna & John’s love story started. Since the very beginning, their lives together have always been focused on adventure and spending time in nature. When it came to planning their wedding, they always knew that they wanted to elope. Their first thoughts went to jetting off to Las Vegas, but after some more thought, they decided they wanted to return to their favourite winter sports resort in the Dolomites in the Fall for an intimate elopement with their closest family.

An Intimate Fall Elopement In The Dolomites

With John’s family being from the UK, and Anna’s from Germany, they knew a big wedding would not only be hard to organise but it would also end up being a day where they would feel like they had to put on a show and be the centre of attention, something that they really didn’t want. They wanted their wedding day to be just for them, somewhere beautiful and surrounded by mountains.

Not interested in traditions, Anna & John decided to spend the morning together and help each other get dressed. They started their morning with a nice relaxed breakfast together in their stunning hotel room, and while Anna was busy getting her hair done, John took the time to relax in a cosy corner of the hotel to write out his vows.

Originally they wanted to elope with just the two of them and 2 witnesses, but as they shared their plans with their families, they knew it would be really hard not to include their immediate families in their day too. But still wanting the day to keep with the elopement vibe, they came up with an awesome plan. They choose to hold their legal ceremony in a beautiful outdoor location with incredible views back across the Dolomites. Their families were there to witness them signing the Italian marriage register and celebrated afterwards with them with come prosecco and pretzels.

Now that they were legally married, they said farewell to their families and headed off for their own adventure.

They drove their open-top cabriolet to the nearest cable car station, and together we headed up the mountain. Our aim was to hike out and find a spot that was quiet, with amazing views of the Dolomites, so that they could read their vows to each other. And after about 15 minutes of hiking, we found the perfect spot. As an elopement photographer, I always take a step back when a couple is reading their vows to one another. I want this moment to be about them and their promises to each other, and I never want them to feel self-conscious that I’m listening. And while Anna & John read their vows to one another, the only thing I heard was Anna’s infectious laugh. I’ve no idea what John said that made her laugh so much, but hearing their laughter and happiness made me smile from ear to ear as well.

With their vows read, we headed back to the cable car & down to the valley. With the evening sun and the warm fall colours, we headed to one last location before the sun set behind the mountains. Just behind their hotel, up on the hillside, Anna spotted the cutest little wodden hut, so we hiked up the hill to take a look. We found a super cute little wooden farmers hut surrounded by long, golden grass. Anna & John enjoyed the last warm rays of sunshine, soaking up the beautiful fall colours of the Dolomites. It was the perfect way to end our day together, and the perfect start to their new adventure into life as Mr and Mrs.
