Nikki & Dawd married at home in their backyard in the middle of the pandemic, a month after their engagement. With tough Covid restrictions in place, they had to split up friends and family on their wedding day. Whilst this meant they had more time to spend with the people they loved on the day, it meant they weren’t able to take time away alone for their wedding photos. So they came up with a plan B – to celebrate again on their honeymoon and take some time out to take their wedding photos somewhere beautiful. They picked Italy for their honeymoon, and their first stop was in the stunning Dolomites. That’s where I met them for their post-wedding adventure in the mountains.
Our original plan was to meet at sunrise, since the Dolomites in August is extremely busy. But with heavy morning thunderstorms forecast, I recommended that we switched plans at the last minute and meet the evening before instead.
Trying to avoid the crowds, we arranged to meet in the late afternoon in the hope that most people would be heading home for the day as we headed out. I planned our locations and route to avoid the worst of the crowds, and except for difficulty finding a parking spot, we got lucky. Not only did we barely see another person, but what was forecast to be a cloudy afternoon turned into a glorious summer’s evening.
But that’s enough from me. I’ll let Nikki & Dawd tell you about it from their experience too…
How did you meet?
We both worked together and knew of each other! We first met outside of work at an outside art festival when we ran into each other and talked all night! From there he wouldn’t leave me alone 🙂
Tell us about the proposal?
We went on a trip to hocking hills park in Ohio to hike. When we were deep inside the woods we found this waterfall off the path we stopped at and when I turned around he was down on one knee! Definitely worth the hike!
What is your favourite memory from the day?
We loved just not rushing our wedding pictures and having this time just to ourselves. Wedding days are stressful enough getting ready and making sure you are on time. By doing our pictures on our honeymoon we fully enjoyed the whole day of our wedding with our family and friends then had our intimate moments for pictures alone! We loved taking a picnic break to have Prosecco!
Is there anything you are really glad you did? Or didn’t do?
We are really glad we had so much time with Cat! We got amazing shots and went to so many different areas so we had a variety of pictures! Hiking in the dress was well worth it 🙂
What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?
I would highly suggest to do pictures on your honeymoon! It made our wedding day special and not rushed but still gave us privacy and alone time as newly weds to spend with each other, reminisce on our wedding day, and relive it thru our wedding attire! Also you can’t beat the background we had!!
What was your favourite thing about working with Cat?
Cat is AMAZING!!! She made us feel like long time friends and very comfortable – which showed in the pictures. It was great hiking around with her and her husband! Cat also has such an eye for pictures!!! Her visions came to life in our photos and we are IN LOVE!
And now for their photos…
