Molly & Todd’s intimate Seefeld wedding has to be one of the most fun and unique ways I’ve seen any couple celebrate getting married, and I’m so excited to share their story with you. I’ve blogged before about ways you can personalise an elopement ceremony and these two absolutely nailed it. They knew they wanted to include their immediate families in their intimate elopement, and it was such a blast!

Molly & Todd’s Mountain Wedding On Top Of The Rosshütte In Seefeld

Molly and Todd live in upstate New York and love hiking together. Molly spent many summers (and some winters) visiting their grandparents in Seefeld in Tirol, a beautiful mountain town in the Austrian Alps. When Molly and Todd got together (thank you, internet!), Molly knew Todd would love the mountains in Seefeld as much as they did. They try to visit Seefeld at least once a year, especially now that their parents spend around 6 months out of the year there, and they quickly decided it would be the perfect place to get married!

Molly & Todd knew they wanted their wedding day to be a celebration not only of their commitment to one another, but also of the coming together of both of their families. And they found an amazing way to include their families in their day by letting them create a completely personal and unique ceremony for them on the top of the Rosshütte mountain, officiated by Molly’s brother. Their ceremony wouldn’t have been complete without their family’s unique version of a handfasting ritual, with the traditional cord swapped out for a bicycle chain. As Molly’s dad and Todd’s mum tied their hands with the chain, Molly’s dad told the group a story about the family traditional, and shared a special 3-digit number with them. He asked if anyone could tell him what significance that number had, with the only clue being that it was a significant number in Molly & Todd’s story. There was silence as the the whole group (including Molly & Todd) tried to work out the significance of the number. As the handfasting was complete, Molly’s dad admitted that the number wasn’t actually significant at all. It was simply the factory setting combination of the bicycle lock their hands were now bound together with! Their ceremony ended with a little surprise for Molly & Todd, as they were told to close their eyes and think about their journey to that mountain in Seefeld, and when they opened them, they were treated to the sounds of their families ringing Austrian cowbells to celebrate the end of the ceremony.

After the ceremony, their families headed down the mountain to experience the traditional “Kaffee & Kuchen” in a local cafe, while Molly & Todd and their adorable rescue dog Arlo stayed up to enjoy the views on the top of the mountain. As we all headed down together on the last lift of the day from the Rosshütte, we were met by two horse-drawn carriages to take the whole wedding party on a tour around the beautiful Wildsee, Seefeld’s large lake. Their final destination was a ride through the forest to the traditional Austrian restaurant Triendlsäge for an evening dinner of amazing local dishes, and the perfect way to end this fun, family-inspired wedding in Seefeld.
