One week ago Niki & Chris did something really awesome.
They got married on a mountainside in the Austrian Alps!

A Mountain Elopement

Niki’s dear Mum recently passed away, so while they were planning their wedding, they decided that a traditional church wedding in their local church just wouldn’t have the same meaning. Since Niki’s mum’s favourite movie was the Sound of Music, they decided to elope to the mountains in the heart of the Austrian Tirol.

Because Niki and Chris were heartbroken to leave their four dogs at home in Cornwall, Niki had replicas of their four dogs made by Shelter Pups as a surprise. With the rings around their necks, while Chris turned to watch his bride approaching, the dogs were put on the altar. Blown away by how beautiful Niki looked, Chris didn’t even notice them for a few minutes. Finally, he noticed them, his reaction was priceless.

Their wedding planner, Weddings by Kajsa, Kajsa Reisenbauer organised the most stunning location for their vows. She found an old stone altar situated half-way up a mountain in St Johann in Tirol. As a result, the couple needed to hike up to the location. But they were absolutely blown away by the views they were met with at the top. They exchanged their vows with heartfelt stories and quirky anecdotes, in front of their close friends. After the rings had been exchanged and papers signed, the only thing left to do was to celebrate Austrian style. With a glass of schnapps!

Being such great nature and animal lovers, Niki & Chris couldn’t resist capturing a few pictures of the beautiful Austrian countryside. Niki even asking a local farmer if she could get in with the sheep!

Mountain Weather

Due to an anything but promising weather forecast, the decision was taken to move the wedding forward by two hours in order to have the best chance of avoiding the heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast. Luckily the weather turned out to be beautiful despite the forecast. It definitely seemed like someone was watching over them and keeping the sun shining.

Niki and Chris, it was such an honour to be invited into your lives and welcomed with such warm hearts. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your time in Austria. Menno is getting the BBQ fired up. He’s eager to try bananas in bacon! 😉
