Paul & Caireen met at university but it wasn’t until years later that friendship turned in to romance. They both share a passion for sliding down snowy mountains, Paul on his snowboard and Caireen on skis. So when Caireen proposed to Paul in Canada, they knew that getting married in the mountains would be their dream wedding day.
Paul & Caireen’s White Lounge Igloo Wedding In Mayrhofen
One of Paul & Caireen’s favourite places to visit is the Dolomites in Italy. At first they considered getting married there, but after struggling to find a location that they loved, they finally decided on Mayrhofen in Austria as the perfect place to get married. They wanted their day to be simple and fun. A celebration of their love, shared with the closest friends and family. The came across the White Lounge, an igloo village on Mayrhofen’s Ahorn mountain and knew it would make the ideal wedding venue for them.
On the day of their wedding, strong winds blew through the Zillertal Valley, and although the sun was shining, Paul & Caireen decided to have their ceremony inside the White Lounge instead of outside. Their ceremony was conducted by two of their close friends inside one of the domes of the igloo, and it was one of the most personal ceremonies I have ever witnessed, filled with stories about the couple and vows
Naturally, the theme for their wedding day was their love of the mountains, and it was evident in every little detail they chose. The traditional handfasting cord was replaced by a pair of ski socks and their ring cushion by a Playmobil ski-doo. And while they didn’t end up with a wedding in the Dolomites, the Dolomites were still a part of their wedding day, with their two stunning custom-made wedding rings showing one of their favourite mountain ranges. And how did they choose their outfits? Caireen chose a beautiful lace dress that she knew would be able to ski in, and Paul made sure to coordinate his waistcoat and tie to match his snowboarding pants! And to complete the winter theme, Caireen wore the most stunning blue bridal coat that she MADE HERSELF!
After the ceremony, everyone warmed up by going outside (yes, outside was warmer than in the igloo!) where the sun was shining. Paul & Caireen decided to put their own spin on the traditional wedding group photo, which ended up starting a massive snowball fight on the top of the mountain. After a celebratory glass of bubbles and cutting their home made cake, it was time to get a few laps and take a few pictures on the slopes in before the lifts closed. With the call of the last lift, we had to head back down in to the valley, and end what had been a perfect wedding day on the slopes of Mayrhofen.
