Being in the mountains can make you feel like you occupy such a small place in the world, yet when you stand on the top of one, you feel like you can conquer anything. That’s why it’s the perfect location for a beautiful winter mountain elopement in Mayrhofen.
Winter Mountain Elopement in Mayrhofen Austria
My heart skips with joy when a couple asks me to be a part of their special day. But even more so when they tell me that they are eloping, just the two of them. Elopements are such raw and emotional occasions, and being a part of such an important day in a couple’s life is one of the biggest honours there is.
It was misty and raining in the valley, and the mountains were shrouded in clouds when I arrived in Mayrhofen on this gloomy Tuesday afternoon. Our plan was to take the lift up the mountain and enjoy the stunning panoramic views, and even though mother nature had other ideas, we decided to throw caution to the wind and head up there anyway. What greeted us were patches of clouds which occasionally parted to show some of the valleys below, and LOTS of fresh snow falling. Considering it was the end of March, it looked like a real winter wonderland.
On the way down the mountain, we walked through the village of Mayrhofen. We couldn’t resist taking a couple of pictures in the valley by a cute wooden bridge and as the clouds started to lift, we were treated to views of the Ahorn mountain in the background.
After a short panic due to some missing ID, we headed to the Standesamt in the centre of Mayrhofen, where the lovely registrar Burgi performed a beautiful, emotional ceremony as these two souls became husband and wife.
As we all left the ceremony, the sun was finally shining, and all the mountains came out in all their springtime glory. And for the bride and groom, there was only 1 thing left to tick off for their wedding day – eating the Austrian speciality Kaiserschmarrn.
